Subject: Not Bad
Before there was a Lucille Ball there was Jean Parker. Really, the resemblance is uncanny. Lucy, however, was a dramatic actress in the movies.

This is a fast moving, totally comedic murder mystery. The bad guy isn’t mentioned or shown until near the end of the film. That really doesn’t matter much. I would have liked more depth in the lead characters.

I downloaded the 433MB MPEG4 file. Good print, but not sharp. Some missing frames. The audio was fine.

Enjoyable detective comedy, but the slapstick was a little too broad for me. Movements were a bit too exaggerated and repetitious, but I don't know if this was the first and improvements developed over time. The plotline was fun and I do want to see the others mention by other reviewers.

Subject: Screwball Slapstick Comedy Is Right.
This was the first of probably four Kitty O'Day films from mid-1944 and mid-1945. The first two starred Jean Parker as Kitty O'Day and second two Majorie Weaver for Monogram Pictures. Lindsley Parsons a top producer at Monogram produced the first two with all the production values the "B" budget would allow. Tim Ryan had a hand in writing all four films. Tim Ryan and Edward Gargan are the top bananas/co-stars as two bumbling cops and the piece moves along at top speed with laughs, gags and punch lines flying all over the place. If it is faintly familiar it's because it is cut from the same cloth as so many other Tim Ryan written comedies such as the Bowery Boys, Maggie & Jiggs and others. Ms. Jean Parker is very good but shrill. Peter Cookson is O.K. but dull. Veda Ann Borg puts in a very early screen appearance for her doing an early version of her bitchy self which became her stock in trade and she shows off some of her great body to very good results along the way.
No mention of the raging war (WW2) going on at the time but all in all a very entertaining little farce. Great Picture and sound too. Enjoy.
